Interview: U.S. TikTok move part of wider battle against China -- expert

Xinhua Headlines: China to make cool-headed, sensible response to U.S. impulsive moves, anxiety: FM

BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of China's State Council on Monday voiced firm support for the Chinese foreign ministry's decision to impose sanctions against U.S. senator Marco Rubio and 10 other U.S. individuals with egregious records on Hong Kong affairs.

TIANJIN, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Although it's summer vacation, Moohialding Saleh Mohammed Al-Kahtani, a Yemeni Ph.D. student, has immersed himself in research materials in his university campus in north China's Tianjin Municipality.

In the interview, Wang refuted a series of recent U.S. moves hurting bilateral ties, including U.S. closing the Chinese Consulate-General in Houston, launching global campaign against Chinese companies, making fierce attacks on the Communist Party of China and interfering into China's internal affairs.

Sorasak said the recent rising tendency in protectionism and unilateralism poses a severe hindrance to the global effort undertaken at the World Trade Organization (WTO) and beyond.

"We hope that the U.S. can overcome the COVID-19 epidemic at an early date." Meanwhile, a small number of U.S. politicians should stop politicizing and stigmatizing the COVID-19 issues, stop shifting the blame to China, and work with the international community to overcome the impact of the epidemic, Wang said. "Our message is quite clear: We urge the United States to stop acting with arrogance and prejudice, but enter into constructive dialogue with us on an equal footing. We hope that it will work with us to ease current tensions and put the relations back onto the right track of no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation," he said.

Maggiorelli, a professor of political science at Bogota's Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, said that China's prudence was evident in recent statements by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who rejected any attempt to start a "new Cold War" that would destabilize both nations and risk global progress.

The future of what many consider the world's most important bilateral relationship now hinges upon whether Washington has the much needed rationality and vision to make the right choice.

Wang said that China-U.S. relations are facing the gravest challenge since the establishment of diplomatic ties, and their exchanges and cooperation in many areas are being seriously disrupted.
