Interview: Cultural exchange vital for Fiji, China to enhance mutual understanding, say officials

U.S. attempts to smear, slander China's political system doomed to fail: senior Chinese diplomat

"The root cause is that some American politicians who are biased against and hostile to China are using their power to smear China with fabrications and impede normal ties with China under various pretexts," said Wang, pointing out that such American politicians ultimately want to drag China and the United States into renewed conflict and confrontation and plunge the world into chaos and division again.

"After establishment of diplomatic ties, and thanks to concerted efforts on both sides, China-U.S. relations have made historic progress despite ups and downs along the way," he said.

"We hope that the U.S. can overcome the COVID-19 epidemic at an early date." Meanwhile, a small number of U.S. politicians should stop politicizing and stigmatizing the COVID-19 issues, stop shifting the blame to China, and work with the international community to overcome the impact of the epidemic, Wang said. WASHINGTON, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The differences between the United States and China "should be seen as opportunities, possibilities for mutual learning, for cooperation," Chinese Ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai has said.

The U.S. administration and some U.S. politicians acted out in such an anxious and reckless manner over Hong Kong-related issues to cover up their own botched response to COVID-19, economy and other domestic problems, the spokesperson noted.

The politburo of the Egyptian Communist Party said some U.S. anti-China politicians have attempted to hamper China's development, created a tense atmosphere in the world, and jeopardized the efforts exerted by other countries especially the developing nations in advancing economy and eliminating poverty.

"Culture exchange between Fiji and China is very important, and our relationship goes a long way back. Cultural exchange is actually a bridge which helps us better understand each other and learn from each other," said Yabaki, who visited China twice.

Hong Kong is part of China's territory and Hong Kong affairs fall within China's internal affairs, Wang stressed during an interview with Xinhua.

"I recalled that Henry Kissinger has been speaking for the past 10 years of coevolution of a harmonious evolution between the two giants in the world economy and in world geopolitics," Chalom Schirman, associate professor at the University of Haifa and former Israeli diplomat, told Xinhua.

The gross interference in Hong Kong affairs, be it in words or action, can only undermine the sound implementation of the policy of "one country, two systems" and will meet with the firm rejection from all the Chinese people, including the people of Hong Kong, he said. Enditem
