BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- China hopes the United States could open up its research base at Fort Detrick to the media, release more information about its over 200 bio-labs overseas, and invite WHO experts to the United States for COVID-19 origin-tracing investigations, a foreign ministry spokesperson said Tuesday.
The United States needs to stop interference in China's internal affairs as soon as possible, adhere to the principle of mutual respect, and return to constructive dialogue on an equal basis. China has no intention to fight a "diplomatic war" with the U.S. side as it will only hurt the interests of the two peoples even more, Wang said.
"The development of China and of the United States is not a zero sum game, and we should not reject each other. What we should do is to draw on each other's strength to achieve common development," he said.
He recalled that leaders and statesmen of the elder generation in China and the United States acted in the fundamental interests of the two peoples and made the political decision of historic significance with their exceptional strategic vision and political courage to rise above the differences in ideology and social systems.
BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi said on Friday that what has happened shows that no obstacle is insurmountable for China and the United States, and the key lies in a true commitment to mutual respect, equality and seeking common ground while shelving differences.
The U.S. move blatantly violates international laws and basic norms governing international relations.
"In the meantime, we should really work together to maintain stability of the region, and all of these sea lanes are extremely important for the Chinese economy. A large portion of our imports and exports have to go through these sea lanes," he said. "So we really have high stakes in the safety and security of navigation. So if these things are left to the countries concerned to work out, the situation would be much better."
The construction of the 1,000-km railway started in Dec. 2016, which is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2021.
"This move can be considered as the latest card used by the United States in its fight against China and its technological rise. This is a battle for technological dominance," Altay Atli, a scholar at Istanbul's Bogazici University, told Xinhua.
China's economy has become more intertwined with the world, as shown by the remarkable increase in imports and exports in June, and growing trade with partners such as the ASEAN and the Belt and Road countries. Hyping up the theory that China is self-isolated not only goes against the facts, but also leads to many enterprises missing the opportunities of sharing the cake of China's growth.
