RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Brazil striker Roberto Firmino has warned that Peru will pose a stern test for the five-time world champions when the teams meet in their 2022 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
"Athletics is the number one sport of the Olympic Games. We are here to let the organizing committee know, I think they already know it. We want to work very closely with them. We want these games to be hugely successful. They (the games) will come when the world is relying heavily on sport. I hope they come out of the pandemic."
"If I gave up at first, I would not have got the chance at a later stage," she pointed out.
The reigning Australian Open champion will contest for her second major title with Polish teenager Iga Swiatek, who needed only 70 minutes to storm to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Argentine qualifier Nadia Podoroska.
The Spaniard rewrote history again in Paris after sweeping old rival and top seed Novak Djokovic 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 in the men's singles final on Sunday, lifting his 13th La Coupe des Mousquetaires and equaling Roger Federer's men's all-time record of winning 20 Grand Slam singles titles.
"Seeing his dominance for so long, I don't think anyone - and especially me - thought I'd be anywhere near Michael's records. It's an incredible honour."
The decision will limit mobility into and out of the Spanish capital, where Spain will entertain Switzerland at Real Madrid's Valdebebas training ground in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday.
The state of California issued a new social distancing guideline last Friday, prohibiting multiple gatherings of over three households in the same public park or other outdoor space at the same time.
Colombia's clash with Venezuela at Estadio Metropolitano will be followed by another qualifier against Chile in Santiago next Tuesday. Enditem
The victory, which was the 34-year-old Spaniard's 100th win from 102 matches at Roland Garros, also powered him to equal all-time men's record of 20 major titles held by Roger Federer. Enditem
