Spotlight: China-Arab economic ties resilient despite challenges of COVID-19

Xi conveys condolences to Lebanese president over huge explosions in Beirut

BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe on Thursday took a phone call from U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper upon invitation.

"There is such a degree of political intervention, government intervention into the market. There's such a discrimination against Chinese company. These companies are just private companies," the ambassador said.

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States should stop attempts at decoupling and advance the relationship through cooperation, and live up to their responsibility for the world, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua on Wednesday.

BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- China urges the United States to stop arms sales to and military ties with Taiwan to avoid further harming China-U.S. relations and cross-Strait peace and stability, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Friday.

In the interview, Wang refuted a series of recent U.S. moves hurting bilateral ties, including U.S. closing the Chinese Consulate-General in Houston, launching global campaign against Chinese companies, making fierce attacks on the Communist Party of China and interfering into China's internal affairs.

Although Trump's actions could yield a short-term gain for the United States, they have introduced severe potential risks to U.S. interests, not to mention international and domestic rules of commerce, Wei said.

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Starting a "diplomatic war" does not prove the strength of the United States, but exposes its increasing lack of confidence, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Wednesday.

"That is a stance that will hurt Trump in the elections, as it is ordinary citizens that are bearing the high costs of failed policies, such as the trade war," he said.

"China is confident in working with countries in the region to overcome the challenges posed by the COVID-19 epidemic, maintain development momentum and safeguard common well-being of the people in the region," he said. Enditem
